Avalanche and Sports Illustrated Tickets to operate the first sports venue utilizing blockchain-based ticketing

Avalanche (AVAX), a decentralized Layer-1 (L1) blockchain, and Sports Illustrated Tickets, a primary and secondary ticketing marketplace, have partnered up to make Sports Illustrated Stadium the first sports venue to utilize blockchain-based ticketing for all events, as highlighted in the most recent reports shared with Finbold on Thursday, December 12.

The Sports Illustrated Stadium is the rebranded iteration of the iconic New York Red Bulls venue in Harrison, N.J., now under a 13-year partnership between Major League Soccer and Sports Illustrated Tickets.

From 2026 on, Sports Illustrated Tickets will rely on Avalanche solutions to provide ticketing for events including New York Red Bulls and Gotham FC matches, international soccer games, concerts, and community gatherings.

David Lane, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at Sports Illustrated Tickets, described the change in direction as a historic moment:

“Seeing Sports Illustrated Stadium for the first time is truly an historic and awe-inspiring moment. For 70 years, Sports Illustrated has represented the best in sports and culture. Through this global partnership and soon-to-be iconic venue, we aim to showcase our vast portfolio of media, live event ticketing, hospitality and fan experiences as we continue to partner with leagues, teams, artists and venues around the world.”

Enhanced ticketing security and exclusive Club SI features

The partnership promises exclusive benefits such as digital ticketing solutions, personalized mementos, and Club SI, Sports Illustrated’s premium hospitality experience offering VIP access, entertainment, and family-friendly packages.

“Box Office”, the Avalanche-powered ticketing platform, will also provide additional ticket security and transform tickets into dynamic digital assets.

Consequently, the partnership between the Red Bulls and Sports Illustrated has the potential to promote and evolve into further global collaborations and give both partners additional visibility.
