Cryptocurrency marketplace application Bakkt has unveiled a new peer-to-peer feature enabling users to send bitcoin, gift cards, and cash to anyone.
In a statement (now deleted), Bakkt noted that users would send the covered items even to individuals not using the app.
According to Bakkt CEO Gavin Michael, the feature seeks to promote transactions among cryptocurrencies in a frictionless manner.

“Bakkt has aimed to provide the app, marketplace and payments infrastructure to make all digital assets transactable, and this new functionality welcomes everyone to have a frictionless digital experience to send and receive bitcoin, gift cards or cash to anyone,” said Gavin.
Users can also leverage the new feature by downloading the latest Bakkt app on their respective app stores. Currently, the app offers a single wallet that manages all their cryptocurrency payments. Furthermore, the app also has the capabilities to track and monitor crypto spending by users.
Partnership with Cantaloupe
Just last month, Bakkt partnered with digital payments firm Cantaloupe, enabling users to pay for items at vending machines through bitcoin and loyalty points.
Following the partnership, Bakkt also integrated into Cantaloupe’s consumer application as a preferred payment choice. Users have the features of “Pay With Crypto” and “Pay With Points” on the app.
Bakkt was founded in 2018 by Intercontinental Exchange, owner of the New York Stock Exchange.
