ChatGPT names 3 best electric vehicles to buy

The electric vehicle (EV) industry in 2024 is experiencing continued growth, but at a slower pace than the previous year. Factors such as the recent economic slowdown are now hindering the evolving nature of the EV market, leading to this shift.

However, innovation persists. Automakers are driving forward with refreshed models and exciting new EVs at competitive prices.

This aggressive strategy, beneficial for consumers, intensifies competition within the domestic market, particularly in China’s EV sector. Following their Q1 2024 results, Li Auto, Nio, and XPeng witnessed a substantial increase in sales.

Curious about the top EVs on the market, Finbold engaged ChatGPT and asked artificial intelligence (AI) to name the three best EVs to buy.

OpenAI’s flagship product, ChatGPT-4 Turbo, presented a slightly different perspective compared to ChatGPT-3.5. Here is its output.

ChatGPT-4 Turbo’s recommendations for the best EV to buy

ChatGPT-4 Turbo provided a well-rounded overview of some of the top EVs in 2023, considering factors like range, price, technology, performance, and comfort.

Based on this criteria, these three EVs emerged as top contenders: Tesla Model 3, Ford Mustang Mach-E, and Hyundai Ioniq 5.

Tesla Model 3

In late 2023, Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) released an updated version of their Model 3 electric vehicle. This refresh included two variants for consumers, but the high-performance option, rumored to be named “Ludicrous,” has yet to be released.

As of 2024, the Tesla Model 3 falls within a price range of $38,990 to $45,990. Those seeking a luxury EV with a potentially higher price point may find compelling alternatives in the BMW i4, Mercedes-Benz EQE, or Polestar 2.

Ford Mustang Mach-E

Ford announced a new electric SUV variant, the Mustang Mach-E Rally, joining the Mustang Mach-E which debuted in 2021. Unlike competitors offering gasoline or hybrid options, the Mustang Mach-E is exclusively a battery electric vehicle (BEV).

It’s priced between $43,495 and $58,995 and competes in the electric SUV market.  While the Tesla Model Y currently leads in sales, other contenders such as the Volkswagen ID.4 and Hyundai Ioniq 5 are gaining traction. Ford has announced a new variant for 2024, the Mustang Mach-E Rally.

Hyundai Ioniq 5

Hyundai Ioniq 5 is an electric SUV with a distinct retro-themed design that incorporates modern EV technology.

Its price range of $41,800 to $59,400 falls within the typical range for comparable electric SUVs. While the Ioniq 5 boasts comfort, practicality, and generous features, its driving range may be slightly lower than some competitors such as the Tesla Model Y and Ford Mustang Mach-E.

“Each of these vehicles excels in different areas: the Tesla Model 3 is a well-rounded performer with great tech and supercharging infrastructure; the Ford Mustang Mach-E offers a compelling mix of performance and practicality with an engaging driving experience; and the Hyundai Ioniq 5 stands out for its design, charging technology, and interior space.”

ChatGPT-3.5 recommendations for the best EV to buy

However, when we queried ChatGPT 3.5 about the same question, it delivered a slightly different answer. This discrepancy is likely due to its limited knowledge cutoff of January 2022.

Furthermore, even within that response, we could discern the difference in its outdated information.

For instance, when we asked if there was an update from 2023, it responded with:

“I don’t have access to real-time data or updates beyond January 2022. For the most accurate and up-to-date information on the best EVs in 2024, I recommend checking with automotive experts, industry publications, and reliable sources such as automotive websites and reviews. These sources can provide you with the latest information on new EV models, their features, performance, and reviews from actual users.”

Outdated AI vs. new EV

In conclusion, this comparison between ChatGPT-4 Turbo and ChatGPT 3.5 showcases the critical role of up-to-date information in AI models.

ChatGPT 3.5’s limited knowledge base, restricted to January 2022, hindered its ability to answer accurately about a car released later that year.

This highlights the importance of using AI models that are regularly updated, especially when dealing with fast-moving fields like technology.
