Crypto firm Roxe hires top talent from Bakkt, Uphold, Venmo and MoneyGram

Top talents who have worked for key financial firms have joined the global payment network startup Roxe, which uses blockchain technology to enable cheaper and faster payments worldwide.

In a blog post published on Medium on Aug. 12, Roxe revealed the names of its new hires who will fill in key marketing, product management, business development and legal roles in the company.

The firm said that Esther Sun Jang, Yamini Sagar, Ahmed Elhenawy and Shujah Awan have joined Roxe to spearhead the growth of the company’s payment network, which caters to large remittance markets including Nigeria, Egypt, Turkey, India, Philippines, Mexico, and Brazil.

“Esther, Yamini, Ahmed and Shu bring proven track records of consumer marketing, product management, business growth, and legal expertise, respectively, from premier brands,” said Roxe chief business officer Josh Li. “Their respective success in traditional and blockchain payments industries will bring exceptional value to our customers and help us execute our vision to make money smarter across the world.”

Top talents

Jang, who previously served as head of strategy and operations of mobile payment service provider Venmo, is the new vice president of marketing for Roxe App, a mobile payment app that offers consumers instant cash back on purchases.

Sagar is the new head of product for Roxe App. She will focus on building features that will allow businesses to accept and make digital payments using QR codes. She previously led the development of a digital assets custodian system for institutional clients at crypto marketplace Bakkt. She also helped develop the mass payout service BitPay Send.

Awan, a legal executive who has extensive experience with fintech organizations,  is joining as Roxe’s general counsel and chief compliance officer. Prior to accepting his new post, he served as senior counsel for global crypto trading and payments platform Uphold.

Elhenawy will focus on growing the partner ecosystem for the Roxe Instant Settlement Network (RISN) as Roxe’s new managing director. Prior to his position, Elhenawy held business development roles at MoneyGram International for six years. He led the money transfer company’s strategic initiatives and partnerships in North America and the Middle East & North Africa (MENA) regions.
