Disclaimer: Twitter is now called X, but that is not its ticker symbol. As a ticker symbol, X stands for the U. S. Steel Corporation (NYSE: X). To learn how to invest in U. S. Steel Corporation, read our dedicated guide.

Summary: X does not have its own publicly traded stock. It is now a subsidiary of SpaceX, following a chain of acquisitions: xAI acquired X in March 2025, and SpaceX then acquired xAI in February 2026. SpaceX completed its historic IPO on June 12, 2026, listing on the Nasdaq under the ticker SPCX. Buying SPCX is currently the most direct way for retail investors to gain any exposure to X. You can do so through eToro.

What is X (Twitter)?

X (formerly Twitter) is a social media and microblogging platform where users post short messages, share media, and livestream. It was founded in 2006 by Jack Dorsey, Noah Glass, Biz Stone, and Evan Williams, and was publicly traded on the NYSE from 2013 until October 2022, when Elon Musk acquired the platform for $44 billion and took it private.

X has approximately 600 million monthly active users and around 245 million daily active users as of 2026. The platform generates revenue primarily through advertising and subscriptions (X Premium), with 2025 revenue estimated at approximately $3.5 billion, well below its $5.1 billion peak in 2021, reflecting ongoing advertiser uncertainty following the change of ownership, though recent quarters have shown signs of recovery.

Does X have its own stock?

X has not been publicly traded since November 2022, when its predecessor Twitter was delisted from the NYSE following Musk’s acquisition. It does not have an independent IPO planned.

The ownership structure has since changed twice. In March 2025, Musk’s AI company xAI acquired X in an all-stock transaction that valued X at $33 billion ($45 billion including debt). Then in February 2026, SpaceX acquired xAI, bringing X along with it, in a deal that valued the combined SpaceX-xAI entity at $1.25 trillion. X is therefore now a subsidiary of SpaceX, which went public on June 12, 2026.

How to buy X (Twitter) stock

Since X is a SpaceX subsidiary, buying SPCX on the Nasdaq is the only route to X exposure currently available to retail investors. For a full step-by-step breakdown of how to buy SpaceX stock, see our dedicated guide: How to Invest in SpaceX (SPCX).

It is worth noting that X remains a loss-making segment within SpaceX. The SpaceX S-1 prospectus disclosed that the xAI and X divisions generated substantial operating losses in 2025, making them a drag on the overall financials rather than a driver of the investment case for SPCX. Investors buying SpaceX primarily for X exposure should weigh this carefully.
