Is the stock market closed on Good Friday

April 18, 2025, marks Good Friday — one of the most solemn and important Christian holidays. On this occasion, the stock market is closed — as neither the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) nor the NASDAQ conduct trading.

Here’s where the stock market left off before Good Friday

The markets closed on Holy Thursday, April 17, with the conclusion of the after-hours trading session at 8 PM Eastern Time, while the bond market closed earlier, at 2 PM ET.

However, after-hours trading does not impact the official value of the S&P 500. The benchmark index closed at 5,282 on April 17, after making a 7-point move to the upside. This 0.13% gain has brought year-to-date (YTD) losses down to 10.18%.

After Good Friday, the stock market will reopen on Monday, April 21, when the regular trading session commences at 9:30 AM ET.
