Joe Rogan, the controversial comedian, actor, podcaster, and host of The Joe Rogan Experience landed a new deal for his show with Spotify (NYSE: SPOT) at the start of February 2024. Worth up to $250 million, the contract makes the world’s most popular podcast available on platforms like YouTube, Apple Podcasts, and Amazon Music for the first time after more than three years of being a Spotify exclusive. The significant sum begs the question: how much is Joe Rogan’s net worth?

The Joe Rogan Experience and the 2024 Spotify contract

If you are a podcast enjoyer, the chances are you have likely watched or listened to at least a couple of episodes of The Joe Rogan Experience. The show is the world’s most popular podcast right now and has been at the top since 2020. In fact, it was popular enough for Spotify to buy the exclusive rights to the show in 2020 for over $200 million over a three-and-a-half-year term.

What is The Joe Rogan Experience

The Joe Rogan Experience has been the world’s most-played podcast since at least 2021, contesting the title as early as 2015. It features casual conversations and serious debates between Joe Rogan and a diverse plethora of guests, including high-profile businesspeople, politicians, scientists, artists, performers, fighters, etc.

The show regularly hits dozens of millions of views per episode and has been described as both influential and controversial. For example, during the 2020 U.S. presidential election, Bernie Sanders appeared as a guest on the show, received Rogan’s endorsement, and used the event in his campaign. Also, the billionaire tech businessman Elon Musk smoked weed in an episode that aired in September 2018, which drew worldwide attention and saw Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) stock drop 9% in price.

The podcast has been lauded as an arena for free thought and an open-minded platform. However, it continues to draw criticism for hosting alt-right figures like Alex Jones and Milo Yiannopoulos. Furthermore, the show has been accused of using racial slurs and antisemitic comments, promoting conspiracy theories, and skepticism towards conventional healthcare practices, which culminated in a boycott of both the show and Spotify over anti-vax positions by several musicians spearheaded by Neil Young and Joni Mitchell in early 2022.

Considering the huge popularity and Spotify’s increasing investment in The Joe Rogan Experience show despite the backlash, it can be reasonably assumed the show will keep going and maintain its huge presence and fanbase.

How much is Joe Rogan worth: Other income sources

The $250 million deal plus a cut from ad sales from Spotify is substantial, but not the only source of income for the influential actor, comedian, and podcaster.

Since his early teens, Joe Rogan took a great interest in martial arts, taking up karate at 14 and starting with taekwondo at 15. When he was 19, he became the US Open taekwondo champion as a lightweight. He ended up being a Massachusetts state champion for four consecutive years. He is a certified taekwondo instructor and taught martial arts at various points in life to support himself.

This interest got him into the world of mixed martial arts promotion and Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), where he worked as a commentator and interviewer, initially for free, but later for monetary compensation. Today, Joe Rogan is one of the most popular faces of the martial arts competition and plays a crucial role in the industry, with a strong partnership with Dana White, the president of UFC.

Despite coming from a martial arts background, Joe Rogan decided to pursue stand-up comedy at the urge of his taekwondo and gym mates. The now-famous comedian landed gigs at bachelor parties and strip clubs before landing his first national TV role on the MTV comedy show Half-Hour Comedy Hour. Today, his comedy specials are incredibly popular, and he regularly performs in his comedy club, the Comedy Mothership, in Augustin, Texas.

Fun fact: Joe Rogan’s early commitment to The Joe Rogan Experience was due to the inspiration and material it gave him for his stand-up comedy specials.

Finally, Rogan is also one of the co-founders of Onnit, a fitness and supplements company known for the Alpha Brain brand. Although the company was sold to Unilever in 2021, Rogan remains one of the faces associated with its products and commonly advertises Onnit products in his episodes.

Joe Rogan’s net worth: The bottom line

Ultimately, all of Joe Rogan’s business endeavors have limited or no information on precise figures, so besides the confirmed rumors of the $250 million that Spotify gave the podcaster in the contract, we can only speculate about his total net worth.

However, Joe Rogan, besides being a polarizing figure, remains one of the most financially successful comedians in the world, and his net worth is nothing to joke about. The pun is well worth its value!
