As Latin America’s crypto activity hits $593.8 billion, businesses are pivoting to digital assets. Why reliability, automation and AML/KYT screening now decide where online businesses route their payment volume.
October 19, 2026 — Latin America’s crypto economy reached $593.8 billion in the 12 months to June 2026, up 9.8% year over year, according to the latest regional report from Chainalysis. The region grew while global crypto flows fell, and much of that growth came from stablecoins moving from investment into everyday business settlement. Trybit, an international crypto payment gateway for online businesses, comments on what this shift means for companies that accept payments at volume.
Key figures
- $593.8B in regional crypto activity, up 9.8% year over year. Latin America is the world’s sixth-largest crypto economy.
- Brazil: $252.5B, or 43.7% of the regional total. Brazilian wallets holding at least $10,000 in stablecoins rose 347% since July 2024.
- Mexico: $77.6B, up 25.5% — the fastest growth among the region’s three largest markets. Argentina reached $88.5B (+15.3%), Colombia $29.1B (+13.8%).
- Stablecoins: about 32% of the region’s cross-border crypto value by June 2026.
- Mexico cross-border: monthly stablecoin value on corridors with either endpoint in Mexico reached $1.8B in June 2026, roughly four times its early-2024 level. Mexico ranks fifth in the world for cross-border flows.
- Stablecoin services: inflows reached $8.4B in Mexico and $3.5B in Colombia in Q2 2026.
From investment to settlement
The data points to a change in who is using stablecoins and why. In June 2026, Bitso, which operates in Mexico, Colombia, Brazil and Argentina, reported that stablecoin usage by its business customers rose 81% year over year. “The technology is now trusted enough to carry real corporate volume,” Bitso’s Colombia country manager Juanita Rodríguez Kattah told Chainalysis.
For online businesses selling to international customers, holding revenue in USDT or USDC removes exposure to local currency swings and opens payment routes that banks often restrict. As volumes grow, the question shifts from whether to accept stablecoins to how reliably the payment infrastructure handles them.
What businesses now ask of a payment gateway
Based on its work with online businesses, Trybit sees three requirements that decide where companies route their payment volume:
- Stable acceptance under load. Downtime at peak traffic means lost sales, so uptime matters more as volume grows.
- On-time payouts. Revenue in stablecoins is only useful if withdrawals and payouts to partners leave on schedule.
- Clean incoming funds. Payments linked to risky addresses can lead to frozen accounts at exchanges. Screening every incoming transaction before it is credited lowers that risk.
“Businesses in Latin America no longer need to be convinced to accept stablecoins. What they ask us is more practical: will payments come through when traffic peaks, will payouts leave on time, and will the funds we receive cause problems at an exchange later? At volume, those three things matter more than a small difference in fees,” said the CEO of Trybit.
Trybit has operated for more than five years and maintained 99.9% uptime over the past 12 months, confirms payments in as little as 20 seconds and runs AML/KYT screening on every incoming transaction, rejecting suspicious ones before they reach the balance. Businesses can automatically convert incoming payments into USDT, USDC and other stablecoins and send mass payouts via API across 40+ currencies and blockchains.
