US representative makes suspicious trades in Dutch company
In this light, we explore another suspicious investment made by US representative Josh Gottheimer. According to the alternative data platform Quiver Quantitative, Gottheimer made “almost perfectly timed stock trades in a Dutch financial services company.”
Notably, the politician, who also sits on the House Financial Services Committee, sold shares in an Amsterdam-based payment firm Adyen (AMS: ADYEN). Only a month later, the company unveiled its “slowest revenue growth on record,” the X account noted, after which its stock plummeted more than 50%.
On August 21, Gottheimer invested in Adyen again.
“Since then, the stock has risen over 40%.”
– Quiver noted.
As the popular social media account pointed out, such a chain of events raises certain questions. Gottheimer reportedly claimed in the past that his portfolio is managed by a third-party financial advisor, which brings up a question:
“Why is your financial advisor actively trading stocks which you hold so much influence over?”
“It would be one thing if Gottheimer just bought and held ADYEY for years, but he bought it in 2020, sold it in 2021, bought it again in 2022, and now has bought and sold in 2023.”
– it wrote.
Interestingly, Gottheimer has also been the most active trader on Capitol Hill, making 549 stock trades in the past year, with an estimated trade volume of over $56.4 million.
