The stock of the data center infrastructure company Vertiv Holdings (NYSE: VRT) experienced a powerful rally in the extended session leading toward the Wednesday, October 28, morning bell, rising 16.13% from $208.56 at the latest close to $242.20 at press time.
This move came as a continuation of the 9% recovery that started late last week, which left VRT shares 3.50% in the red on the weekly chart and 14.54% down on the monthly chart. Still, the pre-market move helped erase all losses suffered since October 9.

Why Vertiv stock just rallied 16% overnight
Vertiv stock’s latest upsurge came as a result of a particularly impressive earnings report that showed the company beat Wall Street forecasts in terms of both revenue and earnings-per-share (EPS).
Specifically, the firm’s sales came in at $4.31 billion – 61.2% higher than in the same period in the previous year and more than $600 million above the $3.77 billion prediction. EPS proved just as impressive, having amounted to $2.21 when analysts were calling for $1.82.
Simultaneously, Vertiv’s operating margin rose from 19.3% to 22.8% year-over-year (YoY), and organic revenue soared 55%, though the firm’s free cash flow margin diminished from 17.3% to 15.1% YoY.
Looking ahead, the company increased its whole-year EPS guidance by 6.7% to $7.15 at the midpoint, while fourth-quarter (Q4) sales are expected to hit roughly $4.41 billion, while analysts were previously expecting Q4 revenue to reach $4.32 billion.
Why investors should remain cautious despite blockbuster Vertiv results
Elsewhere, the double earnings beat came just days after the company introduced its SmartIT solution meant to simplify the deployment of artificial intelligence (AI) data center infrastructure in cooperation with Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA), but also at a time when the entire industry is facing heightened scrutiny.
Indeed, despite the technological advancements seen across AI – both in terms of facility solutions such as Vertiv, AI models, and physical AI developments crucial for humanoid robots – expenditure and the actual construction speed remain critical points of concern.
Under the circumstances, investors should keep a close eye on sector-wide developments, as while Vertiv might meet its guidance, there remains a risk of the artificial intelligence trade unwinding violently.
