BlackRock just sold over $90 million of these cryptocurrencies

BlackRock just sold over $90 million of these cryptocurrencies
Paul L.

BlackRock’s spot Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) exchange-traded funds (ETFs) recorded more than $90 million in combined net outflows over the last five trading sessions, adding to signs of weakening institutional demand for cryptocurrencies.

In this vein, investors withdrew a net $91.4 million from the asset manager’s crypto ETF lineup between August 10 and August 14, with Bitcoin accounting for the vast majority of the redemptions.

BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) posted net outflows of $78.9 million during the period. Meanwhile, the firm’s spot Ethereum products, ETHA and ETHB, recorded combined net outflows of $12.5 million.

The selling comes as both Bitcoin and Ethereum face renewed pressure amid broader weakness in demand for U.S. spot crypto ETFs and a cautious risk environment. Bitcoin has since lost the $64,000 support, now on the verge of plunging below $63,000

Among BlackRock’s crypto products, IBIT recorded the largest investor withdrawals during the period. The fund saw outflows of $53.6 million on August 10, $14.3 million on August 12, $5.7 million on August 13, and $55.5 million on August 14.

These were partially offset by an inflow of $50.2 million on August 11, resulting in a net five-day outflow of $78.9 million.

Those movements resulted in a cumulative five-day net outflow of $78.9 million.

The data indicates that four of the five trading sessions registered redemptions, with only one day showing positive inflows. The largest withdrawal occurred on August 14, when investors pulled $55.5 million from the fund.

ETF flows are closely watched because net outflows typically force funds to reduce their underlying Bitcoin exposure, reflecting weaker institutional demand.

Ethereum ETF flows

BlackRock’s Ethereum ETF business also experienced selling pressure, although on a much smaller scale.

ETHA recorded a net outflow of $16.4 million across the same period. ETHB partially offset those losses with a $3.9 million inflow, leaving the combined Ethereum ETF complex with a net outflow of $12.5 million.

The largest Ethereum-related withdrawal occurred on August 10, when ETHA lost $23.8 million. The fund later attracted inflows of $7.4 million on August 12 and $600,000 on August 11, but those gains were insufficient to reverse the week’s overall negative trend.

The latest BlackRock figures reflect broader weakness across the U.S. spot crypto ETF market. Bitcoin ETFs recorded net outflows on four of the five trading days between August 10 and August 14, with only a modest $7.8 million inflow on August 11.

Major funds including Fidelity’s FBTC, Ark Invest’s ARKB, and Grayscale’s GBTC also posted withdrawals, pointing to continued caution among institutional investors.

Sustained ETF outflows can reduce spot market demand and weigh on sentiment for both Bitcoin and Ethereum.
