Barcelona has set a new cash record following the Catalan football club’s victory in the most recent El Clásico, the longstanding and fierce rivalry between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid.
The soccer club took home $15.3 million, surpassing previous club records, per Catalan news station RAC1, whose journalist Marta Ramon cited anonymous sources at the club in a May 12 X post
Despite Madrid securing an early 2-0 lead by way of Kylian Mbappé’s goals in the 5th and 14th minutes of regulation time, Barcelona managed to even the score by the 32nd minute, on the back of goals by Eric Garcia and teenage phenom Lamine Yamal in the 19th and 32nd minutes, respectively.
The decisive blows, however, came in the form of Raphinha’s goals in the 34th and 45th minutes — and while Mbappé completed a hat trick in the second half, the final tally stood at 4-3 in Barcelona’s favor.

Some 50,319 fans were present for the match, per ESPN — with the figure surpassing Barca’s recent Champions League matches against Inter Milan and Bayern Munich.
In addition, the cheapest ticket for the match was priced at roughly $240 before booking fees, with club members receiving only a 5% discount.
Despite strong attendance, the Catalan soccer club’s financial woes are still a relevant factors — particularly in view of the large contract that Lamine Yamal, one of the frontrunners for 2025’s Ballon d’Or, is expected to receive over the course of summer.
