Who is Kash Patel?

Kash Patel is an American lawyer, former federal prosecutor, and the current Director of the FBI. He is the first Indian-American to hold this position.

Patel has a history of working closely with Donald Trump and has held various roles in the current President’s previous White House administration, including serving as a National Security Council official, Chief of Staff to the acting US Secretary of Defense, and senior advisor to the Director of National Intelligence.

It’s safe to say that Kash Patel is a controversial figure, as he is known for his involvement in drafting the Nunes memo in 2018, which alleged falsification in the FBI application for a surveillance warrant of a Trump 2016 campaign aide. He has also promoted several conspiracy theories and has been a vocal critic of the FBI.

Kash Patel’s net worth

Our estimate is based on Kash Patel’s financial disclosure report filed with the Senate Judiciary Committee in January 2025, and suggests that the new Director of the FBI is worth anywhere between $4,023,060 and $15,780,998.

There are varying estimates of Kash Patel’s net worth, with Business Insider indicating that he is worth over $5.9 million on January 30. The figure accounts for over $2.6 million earned in the past year from various consulting jobs via his firm Trishul LLC, paid speeches, media appearances, and book deals.

Some outlets claim a significantly higher net worth, with The Economic Times suggesting on February 5 that Patel is worth $30 million. They attributed this figure to his family wealth from motel ownership, real estate, $7 million in Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) stock, and profits from Bitcoin (BTC) trading. However, these claims lack detailed documentation in official disclosures and may be speculative.

On the other hand, The Associated Press reported on February 7 that Patel’s net worth could be as high as $15 million, factoring in lucrative consulting contracts with clients like the Embassy of Qatar and Trump Media, alongside various investments.

Kash Patel’s assets

Based on Kash Patel’s financial disclosure filed with the Senate Judiciary Committee, his total assets range in value from $4,573,060 to $16,046,000, while his liabilities total between $265,002 and $550,000. That said, here’s a rundown of his most valued assets:

  • US bank #1 (cash), valued between $1,000,001 and $5 million;
  • Trishul, LLC (National Security, Defense, and Intelligence Consulting), valued between $500,001 and $1 million;

Private life

Kash Patel was born on February 25, 1980, in Garden City, New York, to Indian Gujarati immigrant parents. His mother and father first moved to Canada in the early 1970s from Uganda in East Africa, where they were facing ethnic repression.

Patel was married to Ritika Chaudhary, but the couple divorced in 2023 after three years of marriage. Following a lawsuit, Patel agreed to pay his ex-wife a one-time lump sum of $2 million, with no further alimony obligations.

The split was reportedly messy, with Ritika Chaudhary accusing Patel of hiding assets and refusing to be transparent about his finances. As part of the deal, Chaudhary got to keep their luxury condo in Miami, while Patel kept their vacation home in the Hamptons.

Controversies

Throughout his career, Kash Patel has been involved in several controversies. He has been vocal about his views on Elon Musk, accusing him of building his fortune on taxpayer-funded contracts and having too much control over data and government resources.

Patel’s financial ties to the Chinese fast-fashion brand Shein have raised ethical concerns, as he holds stock in Shein’s parent company, Elite Depot, which could be worth millions if the company goes public with an initial public offering (IPO).

Furthermore, Patel has also promoted several conspiracy theories, including the false claim that the January 6, 2021, Capitol riots were planned by federal agents.

Additionally, Patel has vowed to target members of the media and officials he claims lied about American citizens and helped Joe Biden rig presidential elections. Critics have expressed concerns about Patel’s qualifications and temperament to lead the FBI, fearing he might use the agency to pursue political opponents and corrupt its culture.

The bottom line

According to his latest financial disclosure report, Kash Patel’s net worth falls between $4,023,060 and $15,780,998. While that doesn’t make him the richest member of the Trump administration—that title belongs to Elon Musk (Special government employee)—Patel is still one of the wealthier US officials.
