Monster insider trading alert for Amazon stock

Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filings from Tuesday showed that August 21 was an especially busy day in terms of Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) stock insider trading, as six senior members of the personnel dumped a total of over $15 million worth of equity.

This signal is triggered upon the reporting of the trade to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

The largest of the sales was made by CEO Andrew Jassy, who dumped 20,000 AMZN shares worth $5.18 million at an average price of $259.01. 

Senior Vice President David Zapolsky and CEO of Amazon Web Services (AWS) Matthew Garman were close behind, with the former offloading 15,430 shares at $259.52 for $4 million, and the latter 14,541 at $259,06 for $3.76 million.

Meanwhile, Senior Vice President and CFO Brian Olsavsky and CEO of Worldwide Amazon Stores, Douglas Herrington, both sold approximately $1.6 million worth of Amazon stock.

Finally, Vice President Shelley Reynolds was responsible for the smallest of the day’s trades, having dumped 2,343 shares at an average price of $259.01 for a total of $606,854.

August saw insiders sell more than $350 million of Amazon stock

Notably, August in general saw significant selling by senior corporate personnel. On the third and the seventeenth days of the month, Douglas Herrington raised a total of $1.25 million, bringing his total to $2.9 million for the 30-day period.

Additionally, Jeff Bezos himself unveiled an intent to sell up to $4 billion worth of Amazon early in August, though he is, by press time on Wednesday, recorded as having dumped a significantly smaller $346 million worth of AMZN shares.

Elsewhere, after a rapid rally at the very start of the month, the technology and e-commerce giant spent much of August declining. Indeed, though the equity is 12.82% in the green on the 30-day chart, it is also, at $261.06, 8.08% below its August 3 peak.

Still, AMZN shares offered decent performance to investors in 2026, as they are 15.26% in the green year-to-date (YTD).
