Nintendo has confirmed that the Nintendo Switch 2 has become its fastest-selling hardware launch of all time, with over 3.5 million units sold worldwide in the four days following release on June 5, 2025. The figure was disclosed in an official sales update from the company this week.
To put that momentum in perspective: Finbold research calculations show that Nintendo is selling an average of 875,000 Switch 2 consoles per day since launch. That equates to roughly 36,458 consoles per hour, or more than 600 consoles per minute globally.
Notably, the sales velocity far surpasses the launch of Nintendo’s previous flagship console. The original Nintendo Switch sold 2.74 million units in its first month after debuting in 2017, a milestone Switch 2 surpassed in just four days.
The new device also eclipses prior internal hardware records, making it not only the fastest-selling Nintendo system globally, but also setting new national records across multiple key markets.
Nintendo Switch 2 breaks records in Europe
In Spain, Switch 2 posted the largest opening weekend for any video game hardware with 108,000 units sold, more than doubling the previous record held by the Sony PSP at 54,000 units. In the United Kingdom, Switch 2 achieved the biggest opening week ever for a Nintendo platform, with more than 160,000 units sold.
Meanwhile in France, the new console is now the fastest-selling gaming device of all time, with over 200,000 units sold at launch, shattering the prior record of 107,000 units held by the PlayStation 5.
Strong game sales have accompanied the hardware surge. In Spain, Mario Kart World has already become the best-selling game of 2025, driven largely by Switch 2 bundle sales that have pushed nearly 90,000 units.
With record demand and unmatched early momentum, Nintendo appears poised to dominate the current console cycle as Switch 2 enters its first full sales quarter.
