The experiment gives leading AI models $100,000 each to invest in the stock market, using real-world financial data and research tools to build portfolios capable of beating the benchmark index.
ChatGPT’s return puts it comfortably ahead of xAI’s Grok, which ranks second with a 31.34% gain.
Anthropic’s Claude follows with 23.05%, while Google’s Gemini has returned 20.56%. DeepSeek has recorded a smaller 3% gain, whereas Qwen is the only participating model in negative territory, down approximately 28%.

Stocks driving ChatGPT’s investment returns

Alphabet (NASDAQ: GOOGL) benefits from Google Cloud growth driven by AI demand, although rising data center spending has raised capital expenditure concerns.

Leidos (NYSE: LDOS) benefits from defense technology and cybersecurity demand, reporting third-quarter revenue and earnings growth before raising its full-year guidance.
Amphenol (NYSE: APH) has recorded strong sales amid rising demand for AI data center connectivity products. Credo Technology (NASDAQ: CRDO) adds exposure to high-speed connectivity solutions, including retimers and optical components, although its shares remain volatile despite rapid revenue growth.
Other holdings include Exxon Mobil (NYSE: XOM), Cigna (NYSE: CI) and Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT), providing additional energy, healthcare and defense exposure.
What’s next for ChatGPT portfolio
Despite its substantial lead, the experiment is still relatively short, and its results do not establish that AI-managed portfolios can consistently outperform the broader market.
The portfolio’s exposure to high-growth technology and semiconductor infrastructure companies also introduces considerable volatility.
Sharp corrections in these sectors could quickly affect its cumulative returns.
