Florida Congressman Byron Donalds made a timely stock purchase in April, raising questions about the possible use of insider knowledge.

According to filed financial disclosures, Rep. Donalds bought shares in Amphenol (NYSE: APH), a manufacturer of electronic and fiber optic connectors, on April 10, just days before the company released a record-breaking earnings report that sent its stock soaring.

Notably, the disclosure indicates that Donalds had never previously reported trades in Amphenol.

The recent purchase, valued between $1,001 and $15,000, involved two transactions of the same amount. The trades were made through his Moran Wealth IRA. Since the transaction, Amphenol’s stock has jumped 33%, with the equity ending the last session trading at $85.55.

Amphenol’s impressive earnings report

Just weeks later, on April 23, Amphenol announced its financial results for the first quarter of 2025, which far exceeded market expectations. The company reported sales of $4.811 billion, marking a 48% increase over the same quarter last year.

Moreover, its adjusted diluted earnings per share rose to $0.63, reflecting a 58% year-over-year increase. A major contributor to this surge was the successful integration of its Andrew acquisition, which boosted total orders to $5.292 billion and supported a robust book-to-bill ratio of 1.1.

Building on this momentum, Amphenol projected continued growth for the second quarter. The company forecasted sales between $4.9 billion and $5 billion, with expected earnings per share in the range of $0.64 to $0.66, signaling strong confidence in its forward outlook.

In addition to the Amphenol trade, Rep. Donald’s financial disclosure, filed on May 24, revealed several other Congress trades made on the same day.
