Mike Belshe, the CEO of BitGo, has publicly challenged Anthropic to hack a wallet containing 100 Bitcoin (BTC), worth roughly $6.3 million.

The dare, posted on X on August 1, came after the artificial intelligence (AI) company disclosed that several of its Claude models breached testing environments and accessed real-world systems during safety evaluations.

Belshe posted the wallet address in question publicly, inviting Anthropic to “go get it” and arguing that its safety report overstated the capabilities of the models.

“Either AnthropicAI is terrible at building sandboxes… or excellent at marketing. (or both) But enough with the “we created a hacking monster” games. Do it for real,” Belshe wrote.

The BitGo CEO had criticized Anthropic’s AI security claims before, disputing in June some viral reports that Anthropic’s Mythos model had breached classified government systems, noting that the incident was part of a controlled exercise.

BitGo’s Mike Belshe questions Anthropic’s AI capabilities

In its July 30 disclosure, Anthropic reported that three Claude models unintentionally reached the public internet due to a configuration error involving Irregular, a testing partner.

The experiments, which featured an internal review of 141,006 safety tests, were designed to simulate hacking exercises to see if Claude can retrieve a secret from another machine.

However, the testing system was connected to the live internet by accident. According to Anthropic itself, one model, Opus 4.7, accessed login credentials and entered a real company database. At the same time, another model, Mythos 5, even uploaded compromised software to a public code repository.

Anthropic attributed the incidents to a testing environment mistake, not unexpected AI behavior, which Belshe dismissed as a sound explanation. So far, Anthropic has not publicly responded to Belshe’s challenge, and the wallet remains untouched. Nonetheless, the challenge was enough to spark a heated discussion about safety in the crypto community.
