Polkadot’s Unity SDK to facilitate Web3 game development

Polkadot’s Unity SDK to facilitate Web3 game development

Polkadot (DOT) unveiled a new software development kit (SDK) for the Unity game engine to enable developers to craft decentralized applications (dApps) more easily by seamlessly integrating development tools directly into the Polkadot ecosystem, according to the information shared with Finbold on March 14.

The initiative comes hot on the heels of Unity’s endorsement of Polkadot Play, a platform enabling creators to come up with and expand real-time games and apps across a number of platforms.

Web3 gaming

The newly verified Polkadot SDK for Unity streamlines the development of engaging Web3 games for developers and creators alike.

Based on open governance and decentralized principles, Polkadot Play equips developers with essential tools and resources and promises to give them a hand through a dedicated technical team for game integration.

This approach to onboarding promises to greatly enhance Polkadot’s gaming dApp ecosystem.

In other words, Polkadot Play mirrors the company’s commitment to decentralization within the gaming realm.

What else does Polkadot Play bring?

In addition to providing dev tools, Polkadot facilitates access to funding, bounties, and active venture capitalists (VCs) within the ecosystem.

Nicholas Douzinas, Co-founder of the Polkadot-based gaming platform Ajuna, praised Polkadot Play as a significant step toward more decentralized blockchain-powered gaming:

“Polkadot Play represents a monumental step forward in decentralizing blockchain-powered gaming. By creating a hub focused on gaming, we showcase the potential in Polkadot, and provide a single point of entry for game developers to start building.”

– Nicholas Douzinas, Ajuna co-founder

In addition, Polkadot Play incorporates a business development aspect, connecting developers with potential business partners, a feature meant to foster a more vibrant community of developers, creators, and entrepreneurs.

Game Jam 2024

Teaming up with the Blockchain Game Alliance (BGA), Polkadot Play plans to host a Game Jam (hackathon) in 2024, inviting devs to leverage the Polkadot SDK.

The event marks the beginning of a series of Games Jams aimed at driving adoption and innovation within the ecosystem.

Leveraging the strengths of Polkadot and Unity, Polkadot Play has the potential to open a large window of opportunities for developers and gamers alike, setting a new touchstone for the potential of blockchain-based gaming.
